Ultrasound scans offer expectant parents the very first glimpse of their unborn child. They're a completely safe procedure that utilises sound waves to construct an image of the baby in the womb. They're also a vital way of detecting any ensuing issues with the pregnancy early on. Our PDC clinicians are all highly skilled sonographers who are medically qualified to conduct pregnancy ultrasound scans.
The procedure will take place in a low-lit room and you'll be able to see the image of your unborn child in real time, via a connecting monitor. Our clinicians will then meticulously conduct a series of checks to ensure the baby is healthy and developing on schedule. At the end of your scan, you'll be provided with a printed image of your child to take home with you.
We recommend having an ultrasound scan at 8, 14 and then between 18-21 weeks in line with medical standards. The procedure should take around 20 minutes to complete. Though if the baby is positioned awkwardly the sonographer may require a little more time to capture the images they need.
At the end of the first scan, our sonographers will be able to give you a realistic due date for the birth of your child, based on the level of growth they've witnessed. At later examinations the sonographer will also be able to reveal the gender of the child, should you wish to be informed.
