What can our specialists do for you?
Although IUDs can offer contraceptive protection for up to 10 years, once inactive an IUD does require medical intervention to remove it safely.
As with insertion, removal of the IUD is conducted as a routine minor surgical procedure. This takes a short while for a GP to perform with minimal discomfort to the patient, as the IUD simply folds in on itself during the removal.
Although IUD removal is possible at any point during a patient's menstrual cycle, for some women removal while experiencing a period can be preferable as the cervical tissue is naturally softer at this time.
