What can our specialists do for you?
Anal skin tags are a form of skin growth that specifically develop externally around the anus. Although entirely harmless, skin tags that do occur around the anus are at risk of irritation and infection caused by contact with clothing and increased moisture. It's for this reason, as well as their aesthetic unsightliness, that patients suffering from anal skin tags elect to have them cosmetically removed.
The procedure involves a local anaesthetic administered by injection to numb the affected area so the patient avoids discomfort during the removal. Burning or freezing is usually the method favoured by GPs for removing skin tags from the anal region, though surgical expulsion may be necessary depending on the extent of the skin tag growth.
Recovery is quick post procedure, though owing to the sensitivity of the area, patients are advised to pay particular close attention to hygiene during the healing process.
